When Is the Best Time of Year to Jump Over the Yarra Valley?
One of the questions we get asked the most: when’s the best time to jump? The short answer is that Victoria doesn’t really do ‘guaranteed sunshine’, so we’ll never promise you a bluebird day on the dot. The slightly longer answer is below.
SPRING AND AUTUMN
These are our favourites. The Yarra Valley is properly green in spring and the vines turn a ridiculous gold and red in autumn - both make for an absolutely stunning backdrop on the way down. Temperatures are mild, the wind tends to behave itself, and you’ll get some of the clearest, calmest flying conditions of the year.
SUMMER
Long days mean more time slots and generally reliable weather, though we do keep a close eye on afternoon thunderstorms rolling in over the ranges. Book a morning slot if you can - the air’s cooler and calmer before lunch.
WINTER
Crisp, clear winter days over the valley are some of the most beautiful jumps you’ll ever do - just rug up, because 15,000 feet is chilly even in summer, let alone July. Lower cloud can mean more delays this time of year, so build a bit of flexibility into your booking.
Honestly though, there’s no bad time to jump - just better and worse odds. Our team checks conditions on the day and we’ll always look after you if the weather doesn’t play along.
